The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on Monday that it would stop for “mission -critical field positions” because the national weather service was shortened too much, just like the hurricane season.
A spokesman for the agency said in a statement that the positions in the context of temporary reparation of the widespread break from the Federal Government are advertised in order to further stabilize frontline operations. Noaa also said that they fulfill some openings of the field office by re -assigning employees, including some temporary attitudes.
The agency did not say how many jobs would be published and refused to provide further details.
Elon Musks Department of Government Efficiency shortens NWS and NOAA, the daily weather forecasts, current strict storm warnings, climate monitoring and extreme weather tracking from the minute.
Hundreds of weather forecasts were released and other federal employees of the federal government were put into trial status in February, followed by a later round of more than 1,000 cuts at the agency. By April, almost half of the NWS -prognostized offices had 20% vacancy rates. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was also affected.
The new employees would be considered particularly important by the scientific community, since the agency predicts a busy hurricane season and more tornados. In recent years, the greenhouse gas emission -oriented climate change has heated more frequent, deadly, costly and always evil storms.
The mission of the weather service includes the warning of the danger that you will have enough time to safely evacuate or protect yourself safely. The cuts forced weather forecasts to reduce their hours or no employees overnight in less critical periods.
Insiders and experts have warned of the consequences that a lack of personnel for the weather forecast in the middle of extreme weather and the US economy would mean.
“In 2024, the NOAA was able to offer some of its precise weather forecasts for active hurricanes,” said Marc Alessi, scientist of the Union of Accured Scientists. “These incredibly precise forecasts were made possible by a fully financed NOAA.
“Despite the deteriorating climate and extreme weather effects in the whole country, the Trump government has progressed with its inhumane agenda, which is given to people at the disasters at the same risk,” added Alessi.
